JV Boys Soccer Defeats Saugerties

This Thursday, September 12th 2024, the boys JV soccer team played a match at their home field against Saugerties. This game was not only a test of physical strength and endurance but a test of mental strength. Starting off hot, the Rhinebeck Hawks scored 2 goals in the span of 8 minutes. The first goal was scored by Nery Sacul Rax in the 7th minute assisted by Joaquim Longman Azevedo. Then, Nery Lopez Contreras knocks another one in with another assist from Joaquim, bringing the Hawks lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute. After that the game slowed down and became a battle of defense and who could control the middle of the field better. Saugerties did turn on the offensive pressure but the back four playing defense shut it down and eventually half time was called.  Half time ended and both teams returned to the field. Yet the Hawks would suffer a loss just before the 55th minute when their central defending midfielder got fouled and went down with an injury that ended the game for him. With most emotions running high due to what occurred on the field they were forced to push it down and not let it control the game for them. After the foul a freekick was awarded to the Hawks and with that Joaquim delivered by taking the shot and placing right above the keepers head for the Rhinebeck Hawk’s third goal at the 55th minute, making the score 3-0. Saugerties continued to apply offensive pressure after that third goal but found no success and Rhinebeck ended up taking the win 3-0.
