Varsity cross country competed in the MHAL championship yesterday, 10/27, at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome.
The boys squad was led once again by senior Joe Hagerty who finished 4th in 16:59, earning first-team honors. Additionally, his 4th place finish is the highest by a Rhinebeck individual since 2012. Also scoring for the Hawks were seniors Manny Allen (33rd, 18:18) and Chrisian Cale (46th, 18:39), junior Griffin Giles (34th, 18:18) and sophomore Shea Gallagher (81st, 20:01). As a team, Rhinebeck placed 8th out of 18 teams competing.
While the girls team did not score as a team, Melkitu Dentico continued to lead the Hawks with a finish of 57th in 25:51. This was a significant improvement from her previous time from last year’s championship where she ran 28:39. Also finishing for the Hawks were Jillian Hanna (71st, 27:08) and Willa Kurtz (86th, 28:36).
Both squads will be competing next Wednesday, 11/2, in the Section 9 Championship held at Bear Mountain State Park.
