The Rhinebeck boys modified soccer team recorded their third win of the season, outlasting a resilient Webutuck Wildcats side on a cold afternoon in Amenia. The Hawks jumped out ahead earlier, finding the back of the net twice within the first 10 minutes—one goal a well-executed header off an inspired cross, the other the result of a crafty through-ball and smart finish. The Hawks struck again in the 16th minute, as a lovely give-and-go led to a well-placed finish, putting Rhinebeck up 3-0 at halftime. In the second half, the Wildcats fought back, finding the back of the net twice, their second goal coming with less than 90 seconds left in the match. But the Hawks’ brilliant goalkeeping (five saves overall in the match) and fierce defending (including a courageous tackle in the box in the match’s closing moments) held off the Wildcats’ second-half surge to earn the victory. Next up is a home match vs. Dover on October 17th.
