The Rhinebeck modified boys soccer team fought back from a 4-0 deficit in the second half but came up a touch short, falling 5-4 to a skilled Ellenville Blue Devils side. The Hawks dominated the play early in the first half, creating several scoring chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net. In the 10th minute, the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard when a counterattack led to well-placed strike. Two Blue Devils goals followed in the 11th and 13th minutes, giving Ellenville a 3-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, after an own goal put the Blue Devils up 4-0, the Hawks started to fly, scoring three brilliant goals in the span of 15 minutes to cut Ellenville’s lead to 4-3. The Blue Devils responded with a long-range strike to take a 5-3 lead, but the Hawks kept fighting, earning and then converting a PK with one minute left in the match, cutting the score to 5-4. The Hawks played hard to the end, creating good chances in the closing seconds, but unfortunately ran out of time. Although a loss, it was an incredible comeback and effort by the entire Hawks team, showing great resilience, grit, and determination.
